Chinese people savor melon seeds.
The first historical record of "melon seeds" was found in the book "Taiping Huan Yu Ji" (Volume 69 "Hebei Dao 18 - You Zhou") written in the early Northern Song Dynasty. The Ming Dynasty witnessed the custom of getting high on melon seeds; sunflower seeds have been prevalent from the Republic of China until today.
My mother adores ChaCha sunflower seeds, and the snack is a must on my family's tea table at the Chinese New Year. During my years studying abroad, I experienced a taste of nostalgia when I first spotted a familiar-looking package in an Asian supermarket.
No. 56 is named after the 56 packages of ChaCha sunflower seeds. The classic red flavor was chosen because red is an auspicious color in China. This durable handmade bag maximizes its recycled materials and is put together by cutting, weaving, and stitching. The exterior red parchment paper and the interior foil of the packages inspire an integrated pattern, rendering a silver shine interspersed with red accents. The bag's narrow sides draw influence from the traditional Chinese knots, symbolizing good fortune. Moreover, the foil surface preserves a residual (sunflower seeds) fragrance, creating a visual and scent appeal that is loved by all.
The handle of the bag adopts the gum wrapper chain technique, which gained popularity in the 1960s in North America, reminiscent of a generation of American people and perhaps their nostalgia.
No. 56 is 35*35*18cm (14x14x7 in), less than one kilogram (1.7 lbs). Its large capacity and light weight make it very suitable for daily snack shopping.
